ORIGAMI POEMS PROJECT

EAST GREENWICH, RI

The Origami Poems Project is a community-based initiative that fosters the art of poetry and paper folding in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The project was founded in 2009 by Jennifer L. D’Alessandro, a local poet and artist, with the goal of promoting poetry in a unique and interactive way.

The project invites poets from all over the world to submit their work to be printed on small origami paper squares. These squares are then folded into origami shapes and distributed throughout the community in a variety of ways. Some are left in public places for people to find, while others are given to local businesses to hand out to customers.

The Origami Poems Project also hosts workshops and events to teach people how to fold the origami squares and encourages them to write their own poetry to be included in the project. The organization has also published several anthologies featuring the work of contributing poets.

The project has become an integral part of the East Greenwich community, with local schools, libraries, and businesses participating in the initiative. The Origami Poems Project has expanded beyond Rhode Island, with participating poets from across the United States and even internationally.
