The Greater Dover Historical Society (GDHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Dover, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1976, GDHS works to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Dover and its surrounding areas. Through its many programs and activities, GDHS seeks to educate the public on the rich history of the area.

The Society operates the Dover Historic Museum, located in the historic William P. Heffner House. Built in 1904, the Heffner House serves as a museum and serves as a center of research, education, and community outreach. The museum houses a variety of artifacts, photographs, documents, and other material pertaining to the history of Dover.

The Society also offers educational programs and activities to area schools, churches, and other organizations. These programs focus on different aspects of Dover’s history and are designed to educate students about the area’s culture and heritage.

Additionally, GDHS sponsors an annual Heritage Day celebration, which celebrates Dover’s unique heritage through music, food, and other activities. The Society also hosts a variety of lectures, workshops, and other events throughout the year.

GDHS is committed to preserving and promoting the history and culture of Dover, Pennsylvania. Through its programs and activities, the Society strives to educate the community and promote the area’s rich heritage.
