LAZARETTO PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION OF TINICUM TOWNSHIP

The Lazaretto Preservation Association of Tinicum Township in Essington, Pennsylvania is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the historic Lazaretto property. The property consists of a two-story stone building, constructed in 1799, and six acres of surrounding land. The building served as an early quarantine facility for ships arriving in Philadelphia, and is the oldest surviving quarantine hospital in the United States.
The Association was established in 1997 by local residents and is dedicated to preserving the historic Lazaretto property for the benefit of the community and for future generations. Through their efforts, the building has been stabilized and restored, and the surrounding grounds are undergoing a gradual restoration process.
The Association works to bring the history of the Lazaretto to life by providing educational programs and events to the public. Through guided tours, lectures, and other events, the Association seeks to educate the public about the historical significance of the Lazaretto and to promote a greater appreciation of the property.
The Association also works to ensure that the Lazaretto property remains a public asset. They advocate for its continued preservation, and strive to maintain it as a safe and attractive public space. The Association also serves as a source of information and support for other organizations and individuals interested in preserving and restoring the Lazaretto property.
