Merion Cricket Club Preservation Foundation Inc is a non-profit organization based in Haverford, Pennsylvania, dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the Merion Cricket Club. The Club, founded in 1865, is one of the oldest and most prestigious cricket clubs in the United States, and its facilities have been designated as a National Historic Landmark.
The Foundation was established in 2012 by a group of Merion Cricket Club members and local residents with the aim of ensuring the long-term preservation of the Club's historic buildings and grounds. The Foundation raises funds through donations and grants and works closely with the Club's management to support ongoing restoration and maintenance projects.
One of the Foundation's major achievements has been the restoration of the Club's historic pavilion, which was built in 1892 and had fallen into disrepair. The Foundation raised over $2 million for the restoration project, which involved extensive repairs to the pavilion's roof, windows, and masonry, as well as the installation of new mechanical and electrical systems.
In addition to its preservation work, the Foundation also promotes public awareness of the Club's history and significance through educational programs and events. The Foundation's efforts have helped to ensure that the Merion Cricket Club remains a vital part of the Haverford community and a treasured cultural landmark for generations to come.
