Chestnut Ridge Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Jones Mills, Pennsylvania. It is dedicated to preserving the history and cultural heritage of the Chestnut Ridge area. Established in 1979, the Society is run by a board of directors and a group of dedicated volunteers.

The Society operates a museum which features a variety of exhibits showcasing the life and times of the Chestnut Ridge area. Displays include artifacts, photographs, and documents related to the history of the region. The museum also houses a research library containing books, manuscripts, and other materials related to the history of the area.

In addition to the museum, the Society hosts events throughout the year, such as historical lectures, book signings, and tours of the area. The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter, "The Chestnut Ridge Historian," which provides updates on the Society's activities and includes articles and stories related to the history of the Chestnut Ridge area.

The Chestnut Ridge Historical Society is committed to preserving the history of the Chestnut Ridge area and educating the public about its rich cultural heritage. Visitors are welcome to visit the museum and attend the Society's events throughout the year.

October 9, 2022: Blessed Sacrament R.C. Dating to 1928, the building was designed by the Pittsburgh-based architectural firm of Comes, Perry &amp; McMullen in an English Gothic style in which an imposing exterior of light-colored Indiana limestone is complemented by an interior space whose lofty stone arches, vibrantly colored fresco paintings and other adornments, and enormous rose window designed by the famous Franz Mayer &amp; Co. of Munich combine to create a brightly lit and airy ambience. Tracing its history back to March 10, 1789, Blessed Sacrament's foundation represents &quot;the first promulgation of the Catholic religion in Pennsylvania west of the Allegheny Mountains, except that of the French Catholics at Fort Duquesne&quot; (to borrow the words of John N. Boucher from his 1906 <i>History of Westmoreland County</i>). That was the date on which about a half-dozen recently arrived pioneer families from nearby townships pooled their money to purchase a one-and-a-half-acre plot of land in Greensburg with a view to establishing a church and cemetery. The construction of a makeshift log cabin was begun but, for want of funds, never completed. However, the ragtag group held together, and on the occasions when itinerant preachers passed through the region would unfailingly gather for Mass at whatever space would agree to accommodate them. It was almost inarguably the foremost of these itinerant preachers - the Rev. (and later Saint) John Nepomucene Neumann, whose Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer was almost singlehandedly responsible for nurturing the growth of Catholicism in what was then America's far-west hinterlands - who oversaw the direction of a full-fledged parish, teaming with the Benedictines of St. Vincent's Monastery in nearby Latrobe on the construction of a brick building to serve as home of what was originally known as the Church of the Most Holy Sacrament. The Benedictines remained at the helm for nearly the next century, a period of rapid growth for city and church alike that saw the establishment of six daughter parishes on territory cleaved off the original one, and the repeated expansion of the building until its replacement in 1887 with an even larger one. In due time, that church gave way to the third and present building, which attained the status of Cathedral (and was renamed Blessed Sacrament) upon the establishment of the Diocese of Greensburg in 1951.
