GRAYSTONE SOCIETY

The Graystone Society in Coatesville, Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the African-American community in Chester County. Established in 1998, the Society collects, preserves, and displays artifacts and documents related to the African-American experience in the area.

The Society operates out of the Coatesville Cultural Center, a building constructed in 1923 originally as a YMCA for African-American men. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes a research library, meeting space, and classrooms.

The Graystone Society also sponsors educational programs, public events, and tours of historic sites in the area. It is involved with the Coatesville Cultural District, the Chester County Historical Society, and the Chester County African-American Historical Society.

Through its activities, the Society seeks to educate the public about the unique history and culture of African-Americans in the Coatesville area. It also works to preserve the memory of the important African-American figures in the area, including activists, educators, and business owners.

The Graystone Society is an important part of the Coatesville community, providing a valuable venue for the celebration and preservation of African-American history.

Denlinger Farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Lamonte Garber of Stroud Water Research Center tours a riparian forest buffer planted along Beiler Run, a small stream in the Susquehanna River watershed, at Denlinger Farm in Ronks, Pa., on June 9, 2023. The Denlinger family has planted trees and installed several other conservation practices, including roof runoff controls, an alternative watering source, buffer fencing and manure storage.
