The Laguna Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the unique history of Laguna Beach, California. Established in 1962, it is one of the oldest and most active historical societies in the state. The Society's mission is to collect, preserve, and share the history of Laguna Beach and its people.
The Society operates two museums in Laguna Beach. The Laguna Beach Historical Museum is located in the Laguna Beach Civic Center and is dedicated to interpreting the history of the city. It contains artifacts, photographs, documents, and a library of local history books and other resources. The other museum, the Laguna Art Museum, is located in the historic Heisler Building and contains works of art from the early 20th century to the present. The Museum also hosts various events, lectures, and workshops.
The Laguna Historical Society also works to preserve the city’s historic architecture and sites. The Society partners with other local organizations to protect the city’s historic landmarks, such as the 1901 Heisler Building and the 1907 Hotel Laguna. The Society also offers guided walking tours of Laguna Beach’s historic districts.
The Society has a strong focus on education, offering public programs and events throughout the year. These programs include lectures and workshops on local history, art classes, and other educational activities. The Society also offers internships and volunteer opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in history or museum curation.
