BUSHY RUN BATTLEFIELD

HARRISON CITY, PA

Bushy Run Battlefield is located in Harrison City, Pennsylvania, approximately 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. It was the site of a pivotal battle in the French and Indian War. The battle took place on August 5-6, 1763, when a British force of about 1,400 men, under the command of Colonel Henry Bouquet, was attacked by an estimated 1,500 Native Americans. The British force, which was on its way to relieve Fort Pitt (modern-day Pittsburgh), was able to fend off the Native Americans and eventually drove them off. The battle was a major victory for the British, and it helped pave the way for the eventual end of the war.

Today, the site of the battle is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public. Visitors can explore the historic battlefield and the surrounding area. There is a museum and visitor center with exhibits about the Battle of Bushy Run, as well as a reconstructed fort, a memorial to the Battle of Bushy Run, and a picnic area. The site also includes a number of trails, which allow visitors to explore the battlefield and learn more about the battle and its significance in the history of the French and Indian War.
