The Elk County Historical Society in Ridgway, PA is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of Elk County, PA. It was founded in 1894 and has since grown to become one of the largest and most active historical societies in the state. The Society operates two museums, the Elk County Visitor’s Center and the Ridgway Railroad Museum and hosts a variety of educational programs and events throughout the year.

The Visitor’s Center has a wide variety of exhibits covering the history of Elk County, from the prehistoric period to the present. It also contains a library with a vast collection of books, documents, and photographs related to the county’s history and includes a genealogy research center. Visitors can also view a variety of artifacts relating to the region’s history as well as take part in guided tours of the museum.

The Ridgway Railroad Museum features a variety of exhibits related to the history of the Pennsylvania Railroad and related historical sites. It also includes a large collection of train memorabilia, including old documents and photographs, as well as a model train display. The museum also holds special events throughout the year, such as the annual Train Day.

The Elk County Historical Society also offers a variety of educational programs, including lectures, workshops, and field trips. These programs are designed to teach visitors about the history of the region and how it has changed over the years. The Society also offers a variety of publications, including books, maps, and brochures about the history of Elk County, PA.

The Elk County Historical Society is open year-round, Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM, with extended hours during the summer months. Admission to the museum is free, though donations are welcome.
