Grey Towers National Historic Landmark is a grand monument to the Gifford Pinchot legacy, located in Milford, Pennsylvania. It was the ancestral home of two-time Governor of Pennsylvania, Gifford Pinchot, who was also the first Chief of the United States Forest Service.

The home was built in 1886 by Pinchot’s father, James, and is an example of the “Gilded Age” of the late 19th century. The home was designed by the renowned architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White, and is a combination of the Victorian and Richardsonian Romanesque styles. The exterior of the house is made of Indiana Limestone and is covered in ivy.

Inside, the main rooms are decorated with furniture and artwork from the Gilded Age and the Pinchot family. The home also contains many items donated by Pinchot’s family, as well as memorabilia from his time as Chief of the Forest Service.

The grounds of Grey Towers are a National Historic Landmark. The landscaping is a combination of natural and man-made features, including the formal Italianate Garden and the expansive carriage drive. Visitors can take self-guided tours of the grounds, which offer views of the Delaware River and the Pocono Mountains.

Grey Towers is an important reminder of the dedication of Gifford Pinchot and his family to conservation, as well as a beautiful example of the Gilded Age. It is open to the public, and tours are available throughout the year.
