STURGEON HOUSE

FAIRVIEW, PA

Sturgeon House is a historic stone home built in Fairview, Pennsylvania in 1795. It is an interesting example of colonial architecture with its rustic stone walls, steeply pitched gabled roof, and five-bay façade. The house stands at the corner of Fairview and Main Streets, near the intersection of two of the earliest roads in the area. It is a two-story, five bay building with a side-gabled roof. The walls are constructed of local fieldstone and the roof is made of cedar shingles.

The interior of Sturgeon House is divided into two rooms on each floor. The large first-floor room was used as a tavern and for community gatherings, while the smaller room was used for storage and other purposes. The second floor contains two bedrooms and a small hallway. The house is equipped with a large fireplace in the first floor room and several other fireplaces upstairs. Several large windows are found throughout the house, allowing lots of natural light.

Sturgeon House is an important part of Fairview’s history. It is a reminder of the past and a testament to the hard work and ingenuity of its early settlers. Today, the house is part of a larger complex that includes outbuildings and a garden. It is open to the public as a living history museum, showcasing what life was like in the early 19th century.
