WRIGHT'S FERRY MANSION

COLUMBIA, PA

Solar Eclipse 2017 - Beginning to End I really had doubts that this one was going to work out! The forecast was calling for a 60% chance of thunderstorms in Lancaster, PA. I had some trouble with thick clouds in the beginning but in the end - it all worked out. Each photo was made with a Canon 70D and a Canon 17-40 mm f/4L lens @ 36 mm. Wright's Ferry Mansion is a historic site located in Columbia, Pennsylvania, United States. The mansion was built in 1738 by Susanna Wright, a prominent Quaker woman who was a successful entrepreneur and landowner. The mansion is a two-and-a-half-story stone building with a central hall plan, typical of the Georgian style of architecture. It features a gabled roof, a brick chimney, and simple, elegant details such as paneled doors and window surrounds.

The mansion was originally built as a trading post and served as a center of commerce for the Susquehanna River valley. Over the years, the building has been used for various purposes, including as a tavern, a hotel, and a private residence. In the early 20th century, the mansion was acquired by the Lancaster County Historical Society and restored to its original appearance.
