The Rancho Bernardo Historical Society (RBHS) is a non-profit organization based in San Diego, California, dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of the Rancho Bernardo area. The Society was founded in 1982 by a group of local citizens who wanted to ensure that the history of their community did not get lost in the rapidly changing environment of the times.
The RBHS operates the Rancho Bernardo Historical Museum, which is housed in the historic Rancho Bernardo Schoolhouse, built in 1913. The Museum tells the story of the people, places and events that helped shape the Rancho Bernardo community. The Museum’s collection includes artifacts, photographs, documents, and other primary sources about the area’s people, history, and culture.
The RBHS also offers a variety of educational programs and events throughout the year, providing an opportunity for the community to learn more about the history of the area. These include lectures and presentations, guided tours, living history reenactments, and more.
In addition to its educational programming, the RBHS also works to preserve the area’s historical sites, such as the former Rancho Bernardo Inn and the nearby Bernardo Winery. The Society also works to ensure that the historical significance of these sites is recognized in local planning and development.
