A Bridge With Flare The Pass Creek Covered Bridge is located in Drain, Oregon, and although the official date of construction of the bridge is 1925, members of the Umpqua Historic Preservation Society say the bridge was built in 1906, according to Oregon Department of Transportation. It originally carried stagecoaches over Pass Creek before being moved a few hundred feet from its original location in 1987 and reassembled behind the Drain Civic Center.

In 2014 the city closed the deteriorating bridge completely. I was on the fence about this image but, I liked how the solar flare helped deaden the presence of the ugly chain link barrier at the bridge entrance.

Drain, OR / Drain Castle (1758) The route for much of the day was I-5 which, in southern Oregon, is not nearly as bad as I-5 in California, but still way too busy. Fortunately, there were some sections of parallel routes including one going through Drain, OR – named for a politician, Charles Drain.

Pictured here is what is sometimes referred to as the Drain Castle, built by the founder of the town and startling ornate for what has apparently always been a small, remote, lumber town.

Drain, OR / Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad bridge (1761) Bridge for the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad (CORP) in Drain, OR. The CORP operates between Weed, CA and Eugene, OR over what was once the Southern Pacific mainline. The railroad is apparently fairly busy, just a little later I saw a fairly long CORP train north of Drain that appeared to be all lumber products – unfortunately, no good spot to get a picture.
