The Carroll Area Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Carroll, Ohio. It was founded in 1977 by a group of local residents who were passionate about preserving the history of the area. Governor Jim Rhodes Although old enough that I should know who he was, I had to look him up—which I did after I took this photo. James Allen Rhodes was an Ohio state auditor, Columbus mayor, and Ohio governor [Republican]. He was one of just a few governors in the history of the country elected to four terms. However, most of the country probably remembers Rhodes as the Ohio governor who sent Ohio National Guard troops to quash Kent State students protesting against the Vietnam War. Singers Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young immortalized the shootings in a song titled "Ohio."
