MARE ISLAND HERITAGE TRUST

The Mare Island Heritage Trust (MIHT) is a non-profit organization located in Vallejo, California. Founded in 1995, MIHT is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the rich heritage of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

The mission of the Mare Island Heritage Trust is to promote, preserve and interpret the history and culture of the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard and to collaborate with other organizations to promote the economic and community development of Vallejo and its environs.

Mare Island is a unique historic site in California, and MIHT works to protect the Shipyard’s historic resources. The Trust partners with local, state and federal agencies, as well as community groups, to promote the preservation and use of the buildings and land in the Shipyard.

MIHT also works to promote and support the continued preservation and interpretation of the Shipyard’s diverse cultural resources. The Trust is committed to creating a more vibrant and sustainable community through preservation and interpretation of the region’s historic resources and by developing adaptive reuse projects that serve the community.

MIHT also organizes educational and heritage-based activities to inspire a sense of pride and respect for this unique historical site. The Trust offers guided tours, lectures, workshops and other activities that share the history of the Shipyard and the people who worked and lived there.

The mission of the Mare Island Heritage Trust is to preserve and promote the rich heritage of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, to create a sustainable community, and to inspire and educate the public about the legacy of the Shipyard.
