The Historical Society of Russell Township in Novelty, Ohio is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history of the Russell Township community. Founded in 1981, the society operates out of the historic Century Village Museum, which features 10 restored buildings dating back to the 1800s.

The museum showcases artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the township’s past, including its agricultural roots, its role in the Underground Railroad, and its contributions to the Civil War. The society also hosts a number of events throughout the year, such as historical lectures, craft fairs, and tours of the museum.

In addition to maintaining the museum, the Historical Society of Russell Township also works to document and preserve the township’s history through research, publications, and oral histories. The organization is run by a board of directors and relies on volunteers and donations to continue its mission of preserving the past for future generations.

Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus Most Reverend Richard Gilmour, Bishop of Cleveland, formed the congregation of St Stanislaus by an official act in 1873. In 1876 Amasa Stone, owner of the Newburgh Rolling Mills, advertised in Poland for workers. Thousands of Poles answered this call and migrated to the Newburgh area of Cleveland. By 1885 there were about 600 Polish families in the area. The cornerstone of this church was laid in 1886 and the structure was completed in 1891. The church was substantially rebuilt after being struck by a tornado in 1909.

This icon appeared at The Cleveland Museum of Art as part of the Africa and Byzantium exhibit. It was on loan from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Confucius Within the Chinese Cultural Garden. The domed building is the Temple–Tifereth Israel Synagogue which houses the Maltz Center for the Performing Arts.

The Chinese Cultural Garden was established as a gift to Cleveland from its sister city of Taipei, Taiwan in 1985.

Path to Totality in Cleveland Despite our usual gray skies here in Cleveland, OH, we were graced with somewhat clear viewing during the total solar eclipse on May 8th, 2024.

This composite is created from images taken through my 9.25&quot; Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope and a Canon EF 200mm L II lens x2 Extended using my Canon EOS 5D Mark III.

Sadly, I missed capturing the details of solar prominence in 64Mp detail during totality, but three and a half minutes doesn't give you very much time to get all the images you want.

I'm just grateful to have experienced this in my lifetime.
