The Dawes Arboretum is a 2,000-acre botanical garden located in Newark, Ohio. Founded in 1929, the Arboretum is home to over 11,000 species of plants and trees, as well as a variety of wildlife and bird species. Its mission is to educate and inspire visitors, while preserving and protecting the diverse plant and animal life that inhabits the Arboretum.
The Arboretum is divided into five distinct areas: the Central Garden, the Native Plant Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Children's Garden, and the Arboretum Woods. Each area provides visitors with unique experiences, from exploring the beauty of the Central Garden and its many species of trees and shrubs, to discovering the wildlife and bird species that inhabit the Native Plant Garden. The Japanese Garden is a peaceful display of Japanese landscaping, featuring a koi pond, rock gardens, and a variety of shrubs and trees. The Children's Garden is a fun and educational area for kids, with interactive exhibits, a butterfly house, and a scavenger hunt. The Arboretum Woods features a network of trails, allowing visitors to explore the diverse plant and animal life that inhabits the area.
In addition to its gardens, the Dawes Arboretum offers educational programs and events throughout the year. From gardening classes and bird-watching workshops, to special nature walks and concerts, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the Arboretum. The Arboretum is also home to a variety of special events, such as the Art in the Garden series, the Summer Concert series, and the Fall Harvest Festival.
