Lamping Homestead Recreation Area The Lamping Homestead Recreation Area offers camping, picnicking, fishing, canoeing, and a scenic hiking trail. The site has six walk-in campsites, eight picnic sites, and a picnic shelter. There are two loop trails for hiking, one at 3½ miles and the other at 1½ miles. Backwater Along the Ohio River at Leith Run Leith Run, a small creek, feeds into the large Ohio River at the Leith Run Recreation Area and Campground. Where the two streams meet, a small backwater forms. This backwater provides dense, still-water cover to many fish and other aquatic species. Frontier Boat Launch The Frontier Boat Launch is located in the national forest’s Marietta Unit, right off Ohio State Route 7. It includes a wide boat launch that can handle two vehicles at the same time, as well as 70 parking spaces for trucks and trailers plus additional parking for cars.
