HISTORIC NEW RICHMOND

NEW RICHMOND, OH

Historic New Richmond is a small village in Clermont County, Ohio. It is located on the banks of the Ohio River, approximately 25 miles east of Cincinnati. The village was founded in 1814 by a group of settlers from New Richmond, Virginia, and was then known as "Little Richmond".

In the early 1800s, New Richmond was an important port for farmers, merchants, and other travelers in the area. It was a key stop on the Underground Railroad, providing a safe haven for escaped slaves. The village was also a major supplier of salt and other products to the Cincinnati area.

In the mid-1800s, the village began to experience economic decline due to the construction of the Miami and Erie Canal, which diverted traffic away from New Richmond. The village was revitalized in the early 1900s with the establishment of a rail line and the opening of a new bridge over the Ohio River, making it easier for residents to travel to and from the village.

Today, Historic New Richmond is a charming village with many historic buildings, including the original post office and several historic homes. The village has a quaint downtown area with a variety of small businesses and restaurants. The annual New Richmond Heritage Days celebration is held each summer to celebrate the village's rich history.
