VICTORIAN PERAMBULATOR

The Victorian Perambulator in Jefferson, Ohio is an iconic piece of history. Constructed in the late 1800s, it is the oldest surviving perambulator in the United States. It is a three-wheeled wooden wagon that was designed to be pulled by a horse and used by mothers to transport their children.

The perambulator was built by master wagon maker and blacksmith, William B. Moore, who owned a wagon shop in Jefferson. He was well-known in the area for his high-quality workmanship and attention to detail. The perambulator has a wooden frame and is covered with green oil cloth, which was commonly used to protect the inside of the wagon. It features two metal-rimmed wheels in the front and one large wheel in the back. It also has a metal handle to make it easier to pull.

The perambulator has been well-preserved over the years and is currently on display at the Jefferson Historical Society Museum. It is a reminder of the past and of the hardworking people of Jefferson who used the perambulator to transport their children. It is a testament to the craftsmanship of William B. Moore and is a reminder of the simpler times of the 19th century.
