Marmarth, ND / God’s road maintenance? (# 0409) <i>Any and all improvements on old highway 16 are first of all dedicated to the glory of God for without him none of this could have been accomplished and secondly, to the memory of Harold “Poker” Kruger</i>

Religious sign designed to look like a state highway sign, on an old road just off US 12 , west of Marmarth, ND. I only ventured a little ways up the road – it was marked as ‘low maintenance’. But, it turns out the sign has some fame (link below) and that “Poker” Kruger was the road grader for the road.

Marmarth, ND / Mystic Theater (# 0412) Per Wikipedia, the Mystic Theater was built in 1914 as a movie theater. It is now owned by the Marmarth Historical Society and is the location for a cowboy poetry event each year in addition to local plays.

Marmarth itself was an attractive little town with surprising architecture for what seemed to be a town that had been largely abandoned. Per the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmarth,_North_Dakota" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Wikipedia</a> on them, it became a center for nearby homesteads in the early 1900’s when the railroad was built there. The town remains important – with a population of 136 it is the largest town in its county!
