Lost Colony Center for Science and Research Inc. (LCCSR) is a non-profit organization located in Williamston, North Carolina. Founded in 2004, LCCSR’s mission is to promote scientific research and education through the preservation and interpretation of the natural, historical and cultural resources of the area. The organization’s primary focus is on the Lost Colony, the first English settlement in the Americas established in 1587, located in present-day Dare County.
LCCSR works to protect and promote the area’s natural resources and cultural heritage through programs, research and field studies. The organization also provides educational programming to local schools and the community, including lectures, field trips, and hands-on activities. LCCSR also works with the National Park Service to coordinate the annual Lost Colony Symposium, which brings together experts from around the world to discuss the archaeological and historical significance of the Lost Colony.
LCCSR has collaborated with numerous organizations, including the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the North Carolina Museum of History, and the North Carolina Historical Society. Additionally, they have partnered with Elizabeth City State University, the Dare County Arts Council, and the North Carolina Coastal Federation to promote research and public education and outreach.
LCCSR is dedicated to preserving and promoting the historic, cultural and natural resources of the area. Through research, education and outreach, LCCSR works to ensure that the story of the Lost Colony is remembered and understood for generations to come.
