Friends of Oriental's history in Oriental, North Carolina dates back to 1992 when a group of dedicated individuals came together to establish a non-profit organization that would support the arts and cultural events in the town. The organization's mission is to promote and preserve Oriental's unique heritage and to foster a sense of community through the arts.

Over the years, Friends of Oriental has grown to become an integral part of the town's cultural fabric. The organization hosts a wide range of events, including concerts, art exhibits, and theater productions, as well as educational programs and workshops.

One of the signature events hosted by Friends of Oriental is the Ol' Front Porch Music Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors to the town each year. The festival features live music performances, food vendors, and arts and crafts vendors, and is a celebration of American roots music.

Friends of Oriental also works closely with other community organizations to support local initiatives, such as the restoration of the Oriental History Museum and the construction of a new community center.
