Older than trees, older than dirt These mountains in this part of the Appalachian Plateau began well over a billion years ago–way before there were such things as trees–to 250 million years ago (not older than trees). It is <a href="https://interestingengineering.com/science/earths-oldest-mountains-and-impact-to-planet" rel="noreferrer nofollow">one of the oldest mountain ranges</a> in the world. It looks to me that the Blue Ridge Mountains may have over-compensated in their rush for life.

Hickory Ridge Homestead Museum is a historic site located in Boone, North Carolina. The museum consists of a collection of historic buildings that once served as the hub of a 19th-century Appalachian farming community.
