Older than trees, older than dirt These mountains in this part of the Appalachian Plateau began well over a billion years ago–way before there were such things as trees–to 250 million years ago (not older than trees). It is <a href="https://interestingengineering.com/science/earths-oldest-mountains-and-impact-to-planet" rel="noreferrer nofollow">one of the oldest mountain ranges</a> in the world. It looks to me that the Blue Ridge Mountains may have over-compensated in their rush for life.

Daniel Boone Native Gardens is a botanical garden located in the town of Boone, North Carolina. The garden was established in 1963 by the Garden Club of North Carolina to honor the legendary frontiersman, Daniel Boone. It covers an area of 3 acres and features over 200 species of native plants and trees that are indigenous to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The garden is divided into sections, including a wildflower trail, rhododendron grove, fern dell, rock garden, and a butterfly garden. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the garden's paths, which wind through the various habitats and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

The garden also serves as a sanctuary for wildlife, including birds, butterflies, and other insects. Visitors can observe these creatures in their natural habitats while learning about their importance to the ecosystem.
