Fountain at Barker Commons, Fredonia, New York, April 2023 Seen in April 2023 is a charming park fountain, one of two that bedeck the landscaped greenery comprising Barker Common, the centerpiece of the historic village of Fredonia, New York. Measuring about two and a half acres in area, the park dates to the village's earliest history: it was in roughly the early 1810s when Hezekiah Barker, one of the earliest white settlers in the area, laid out the streets in what's now the village center, leaving aside for common use the plot bounded by Day, Church, Center, and Main Streets. (Temple Street was extended through the green a little later, creating the bisected arrangement that persists today.) The fountains themselves date to 1901 and figure among the wealth of cast iron architectural elements and design features within the NRHP-listed Fredonia Commons Historic District.

March 30, 2023: Christian Education Building, First Church of Evans, Evans, New York The Christian Education Building is the most recently built element of the otherwise immensely historic First Church of Evans complex in the town of Evans, New York: designed by architect Olaf Shelgren, Jr., it was completed in 1966.

February 17, 2023: Knights of Columbus Council 2220 clubhouse, Hamburg, New York Aside from the fact that it is not a church, the clubhouse of Council 2220 of the Knights of Columbus serves as a fine summation of the typical style of architects Shelgren, Patterson &amp; Marzec: a relatively conservative take on Modernism with a notable abundance of Classically-derived embellishments. It stands on Pierce Avenue in Hamburg, New York.

Knights of Columbus Council 2220 clubhouse, Hamburg, New York, February 2023 As seen in February 2023, the clubhouse of Council 2220 of the Knights of Columbus, located on Pierce Avenue at the west end of the village of Hamburg, New York. Completed in 1969 to a design by architect Fred Marzec of the Buffalo firm of Shelgren, Patterson &amp; Marzec, this building, aside from the fact that it is not a church, serves as a fine summary of the firm's aesthetic predilections: its style is a relatively conservative take on Modernism with a notable abundance of Classically-derived embellishments (note how the façade is segmented by stylized stone pilaster strips, as well as the ornamental brickwork at the top, fashioned into a dentil row and false parapet), and its footprint is oriented at a 45-degree angle relative to the street, one of their stylistic signatures at the time. The $250,000 construction process commenced in the summer of 1968 on the site of the converted private residence the council had previously used. (Interestingly, the annex that had earlier been placed on the south side of the original clubhouse, seen in the background at right, was spared the wrecking ball, therefore the main structure seen here is technically an addition to the addition.) Comprising 10,500 square feet devoted principally to use as a ground-floor gymnasium with locker rooms and showers in the basement, the space was designed with versatility in mind: through the use of a mechanical soundproof partition, it can easily be repurposed as a dining room for banquets or as an extension of the meeting space in the adjacent Council Chamber. Offices for the council's Grand Knight and Financial Secretary, as well as storage rooms, occupy the balance of the space. Dedication services, in the form of a Mass held by Auxiliary Bishop Bernard McLaughlin of the Buffalo Catholic diocese, took place in December of the following year.

January 20, 2023: WDCX radio transmitter building and tower, Boston, New York A view of the transmitter building and tower of radio station WDCX, located in the town of Boston, New York. Rising 348 feet above the top of a low hill just off Zimmerman Road, the tower beams its signal in a non-directional pattern over a roughly 8,000-square-mile area that covers virtually all of the Niagara Frontier as well as many adjacent regions: a circle extending from Hamilton, Ontario in the northwest to Bradford, Pennsylvania in the southeast to the outer suburbs of Rochester in the northeast. The oldest continually operating Christian radio station in the Buffalo market, and only the second of any format to broadcast in stereophonic sound, WDCX signed on the air in February 1963 and, from its <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/carrotflowerproductionsintl/52967610448">studios</a> on Delaware Avenue just north of downtown, today broadcasts a schedule of nationally syndicated religious programming both on its original frequency of 99.5 FM as well as via two AM simulcasts (WDCZ 970 in Buffalo; WDCX 990 in Rochester) and one Class D FM translator (W296EF 107.1 in Rochester).

January 3, 2023: St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, Hamburg, New York Built in 1961, the design of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, Hamburg, New York Associates typifies the stylistic approach taken by architects Shelgren &amp; Whitman in the latter era of the firm's existence: a conservative take on Modernism tempered by vaguely defined but palpable nods to traditionalism.
