HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION OF LEWISTON

The Historical Association of Lewiston (HAL) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to preserving the history of Lewiston, New York, located in Niagara County. The Association was founded in 1878, and today its mission is to promote historical research, education, and preservation in the Lewiston community.

The Association maintains a museum and archives, located in the heart of Lewiston, that houses artifacts and documents which tell the story of Lewiston’s past. The museum is open to the public and it hosts a variety of exhibits and events throughout the year, including lectures, workshops, and field trips. The archives contain an extensive collection of photographs, maps, manuscripts, newspaper clippings, and other materials related to the history of Lewiston and Niagara County.

HAL also sponsors a variety of programs, including the Historic Lewiston Walking Tour, the Lewiston Historic Preservation Program, and the Lewiston Historic Sites Project. The Walking Tour highlights many of the historic sites in Lewiston and the Preservation Program provides grants for the restoration and preservation of historic sites. The Historic Sites Project gathers information on Lewiston’s historic buildings and sites, which is then available to the public.

The Association is supported by memberships and donations, as well as grants and other fundraising activities. HAL is an active participant in the Lewiston community, and its members are dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of this unique area.
