Clifton Springs Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Clifton Springs, New York. The society was established in 1959 to preserve and promote the history of the Clifton Springs area. The society operates the Foster Cottage Museum, which is dedicated to the history of the Clifton Springs Sanitarium and the village of Clifton Springs.

The Foster Cottage Museum is a restored Victorian house that was once home to Dr. Henry Foster, the founder of the Clifton Springs Sanitarium. The museum houses a collection of artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the sanitarium and its impact on the community. Visitors can see the original operating room, a restored patient room, and learn about the health treatments offered at the sanitarium.

The society also operates the Clifton Springs Library and Museum, which houses a collection of local history materials, including photographs, documents, and artifacts. The museum also hosts temporary exhibits and events throughout the year.

In addition to preserving local history, the Clifton Springs Historical Society offers educational programs, walking tours, and other events for the community. The society is run by volunteers and is funded through donations and grants.

July 7, 2022: Calvary Lutheran Church, Seneca Falls, New York A visually striking presence on the western edge of the town of Seneca Falls, New York, Calvary Lutheran Church is a fine example of the "A-Frame" school of architecture that, at the time of its construction (1960), was becoming ever more popular Stateside after its post-World War II importation from Europe. August 31, 2021: Parking area (aka "text stop") on eastbound New York State Thruway at mile marker 353.1, Victor, New York The parking area off the eastbound lanes of the New York State Thruway at mile marker 353.1, in the Town of Victor, New York. In addition to the 27 Service Areas with their dining facilities, restrooms, and fuel stations, the New York State Thruway offers travellers eleven of these more limited-service rest stops (rebranded "text stops" in 2013 to combat distracted driving). In addition to overnight parking for both passenger vehicles and big-rig trucks, these areas offer garbage bins, picnic tables, dedicated pet areas, and emergency phones.
August 20, 2021: Rose Garden and Belvedere, Sonnenberg Gardens, Canandaigua, New York A view of the Rose Garden at Sonnenberg Gardens State Historic Park in Canandaigua, New York. Though rose gardens are certainly not an uncommon component of such landscaped estates, Sonnenberg's rose garden's design of intersecting circles is indeed unusual; the curved beds and climbing bushes give a sense of informality that's much at odds with the norm. Most of the 2,500 bushes in the garden today - representing only pink, red and white cultivars, following the preferences of the lady of the house, Mary Clark Thompson - date to its 1971 restoration, the first of two, and were sourced from the renowned Jackson & Perkins Rose Gardens in Newark, New York. A second restoration occurred two years later, precipitated by the finding of the original blueprints used to construct it in 1905-06. At rear is the Belvedere, a majestic, Classically-styled columned pergola that separates the Rose Garden from the Italian Garden on the other side and affords visitors sweeping vistas of both.

May 22, 2021: Burger King dining room during the COVID-19 pandemic, New York State Thruway Clifton Springs Service Area, Manchester, New York Though the indoor seating area has reopened at the Burger King restaurant at the New York State Thruway's Clifton Springs Travel Plaza, several booths remain closed off to aid in social distancing. As well, many customers opt to continue wearing face masks even though they are no longer required for those vaccinated.

May 25, 2022: Sauder's Is Closed for Ascension Thursday, Seneca Falls, New York The sign outside Sauders Market - a Mennonite-owned grocery in Seneca Falls, New York - alerts drivers along River Road that the store will be closed on May 26 in observance of Ascension Thursday.
High School Centennial Arch and Skoi-yase Monument at Lafayette Park, Waterloo, New York, July 2021 As seen on a July 2021 afternoon, this view over Lafayette Park in the center of the village of Waterloo, New York comprises two of the historic monuments that are peppered throughout the space. The limestone arch at left commemorates the history of secondary education in Waterloo, which began in 1838 with the founding of the Waterloo Academy. Explanatory plaques placed on its sides note that the monument "was formed by combining two portals from the 1901 addition to the original high school building. Upon demolition of the school in 1928, Herman F. Brehm moved them to his property west of the village where they were joined to form an arch. Donated to the Waterloo Central School Centennial Committee in 1986, the arch was dismantled and reconstructed... in Lafayette Park." For its park, the obelisk at right "was erected in September 1879 to commemorate the destruction of the [Cayuga] village Skoi-yase by Col. John Harper, under order of Maj. Gen. John Sullivan, September 8, 1779." The park itself dates to the village's earliest history, having been set aside by founding fathers Elisha Williams and Reuben Swift as land that must remain public and never be built on. Over the years it has been the site of many of the pivotal events of Waterloo's history: it owes its name to its status as the site of the village's official welcome to the Marquis de Lafayette on the occasion of his visit in 1825, and it was the site of a 1966 proclamation by then-President Lyndon B. Johnson, who was in the village to officialize its status as the birthplace of the American holiday of Decoration Day, or Memorial Day, in 1866. (This claim is refuted in the book <i>The Genesis of the Memorial Day Holiday in America</i>, written in 2014 by Dr. Richard Gardiner and Daniel Bellware, both residents of Columbus, Georgia, a rival claimant to the title of Memorial Day birthplace.) In the background are seen the modern-day Waterloo High School at far left, and the gold-domed Seneca County Courthouse just right of center.
