The Council for Northeast Historical Archeology (CNEHA) is a non-profit organization located in Tarrytown, New York. Founded in 1971, the Council works to promote the preservation, study, and interpretation of the archeological and historical resources of the Northeast region of the United States. CNEHA organizes field trips and lectures, sponsors research projects, and publishes a quarterly journal, the Council for Northeast Historical Archeology Bulletin. The Bulletin publishes original research and reports on archeological excavations in the region.
CNEHA also holds annual conferences in various locations throughout the Northeast. The conferences are attended by professional, avocational, and student archeologists, as well as members of the public who are interested in the region’s history and archeology. The conferences include presentations on the history and archeology of the Northeast, field trips, and workshops.
The Council also supports research projects, such as its own “Discovery and Documentation of Northeast Historical and Archeological Sites” project, which seeks to identify and document historical and archeological sites in the Northeast. The Council also maintains a library of books and articles on Northeast archeology and provides a forum for members to exchange information on the region’s history and archeology.
CNEHA works to protect and preserve the region’s historical and archeological resources, and to educate the public on their importance. The Council also serves to connect people interested in the region’s history and archeology, and encourages collaboration between researchers, educators, and the public.
