September 17, 2021: "The Eagle", Roscoe Conkling Park, Utica, New York Standing on a high ridge with a commanding view over the downtown skyline, <i>The Eagle</i> - a six-foot bronze statue sculpted in 1923 by noted artist Charles Keck - is one of the most well-known landmarks at Roscoe Conkling Park in Utica, New York.

Historic Herkimer County Friends of is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, revitalization and celebration of historic sites in Herkimer County, New York. Founded in 1999, the organization works to preserve the county’s rich heritage through a variety of activities including research, education, and advocacy. The organization’s efforts are largely focused on raising awareness about the county’s rich past, as well as improving access to and the preservation of its historical sites.

The organization has several ongoing initiatives, including its Historic Sites Inventories, which provide detailed information about the county’s historic sites. The organization also works to identify and protect sites that are in need of preservation or that are threatened by development. Additionally, the organization works to educate the public about Herkimer County’s history and to promote the county’s historical sites through the organization’s website and various events.

Historic Herkimer County Friends of also plays an important role in the economic development of the county. The organization works with local businesses and government entities to facilitate the development of historic sites and leverage the county’s history to attract visitors and new businesses. In addition, the organization sponsors several events throughout the year that promote the county’s history and involve local residents in the preservation of the county’s historic sites.

The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors, and is supported by donations, grants, and memberships. With the help of its members and volunteers, Historic Herkimer County Friends of is committed to preserving the county’s history and heritage for future generations.
