The Walter J Travis Society Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Rochester, New York. Founded in 1907, the Society is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the game of golf. It is named in honor of Walter J. Travis, a prominent turn-of-the-century golfer and golf course architect who was a key figure in the development of golf in the United States. The Society is committed to preserving the history of golf and promoting the game through education and outreach.

The Society’s primary mission is to preserve the heritage of golf in the Rochester area, through its annual golf tournament, the Walter J Travis Memorial Golf Tournament. This event is held each year at Oak Hill Country Club, the site of the original tournament held in 1907. The tournament includes three rounds of golf and cash prizes for the top finishers. Additionally, the Society supports a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to college golfers, and awards the Walter J Travis Medal of Honor to recognize outstanding golf achievements.

The Society also works to promote the game of golf in the Rochester area through various events and activities. These include a junior golf program, a golf clinic for beginners, tournaments for all levels and abilities, as well as golf outings and social events. The Society also hosts an annual golf outing for members and their guests, and an annual gala dinner to recognize members and their contributions to golf.

The Society’s goal is to ensure that the memory of Walter J. Travis and his commitment to the game of golf is remembered and honored for generations to come. Through its activities and events, the Walter J Travis Society Inc. is helping to keep the spirit of golf alive in the Rochester area.
