January 21, 2023: First English Lutheran Church, Lockport, New York One of Niagara County's oldest extant religious congregations, the First English Lutheran Church of Lockport, New York now meets in a 1956 building whose Gothic-styled design is markedly traditionalist even by the relatively conservative standards of Shelgren &amp; Whitman, its architects.

The Hartland Historical Society in Gasport, NY, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Hartland area. Founded in 1974, the Society is committed to discovering, preserving, and sharing the heritage of Hartland and its surrounding towns. The Society strives to preserve local history through its museum and library, which house a variety of artifacts, documents, photographs, and other materials related to the history of Hartland and its surrounding towns.

The Society offers educational programs, such as lectures, tours, and workshops. Additionally, the Society offers research services for those interested in researching their family history in the area. Its collection includes a variety of materials such as diaries, photographs, and maps. The Society also houses a large collection of books on the history of Hartland, its surrounding towns, and the Niagara County area.

The Hartland Historical Society is committed to preserving the historical legacy of Hartland and its surrounding towns. Its goal is to provide the community with access to information and materials related to the history of Hartland and its surrounding towns. The Society also works to engage the community in educational programs and events, and to serve as a resource for those researching their family history in the area.

Fillmore Chapel United Methodist Church, Porter, New York, June 2022 Fillmore Chapel United Methodist Church, 2523 Youngstown Wilson Road at Ransomville Road, Porter, New York, June 2022. Built in 1852, this simple wood-framed country church is a fine example of the Greek Revival style of architecture whose era of popularity in the United States was just beginning to draw to a close (and, indeed, was already pretty much over with in the large East Coast metropolises). Here we see a symmetrical façade replete with subtle and simple yet handsome Classical elements: a shallow-pitched roof whose large front gable is consciously analogous to a pediment; Doric pilaster strips flanking both the façade itself and, in stylized form, framing the entrance along with a simple entablature. Among the oldest extant congregations in the area, Fillmore Chapel was founded in 1822 and met initially in the home of its founding pastor, Rev. George Ash. Interestingly, the congregation takes its name from a wholly different figure in the early history of Western New York Methodism, namely the famous Rev. Glezen Fillmore, a frontier circuit preacher who presided over the first Methodist services west of the Genesee River, and who was a cousin of future U.S. President Millard Fillmore.

First Presbyterian Church, Medina, New York, October 2021 First Presbyterian Church, 522 Main Street, Medina, New York, October 2021. Built in 1893 to a design by an unknown architect and a contributing property to the NRHP-listed Main Street Historic District, this is an example of Romanesque Revival church architecture that's notable for its modest scale and light massing: raking arched corbel tables underlie the gables on both the main portion of the building and atop the squat tower, interspersed in the former case by simple stepped buttresses. Its windows are small in size and topped in all cases by round arches, with a quatrefoil pattern in the roundel at the top center of the façade. The village's second-oldest religious congregation, First Presbyterian was founded in 1829.

Rich-Twinn Octagon House ~ Akron, New York US Post Office—Akron is a historic post office building located at Akron, Erie County, New York. It was designed and built 1939–1940, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, Louis A. Simon. The building is in the Colonial Revival style and is virtually identical to the post offices at Scotia, Oxford, Middleburgh, and Horseheads. The interior features a mural by Elizabeth Logan painted in 1941 and titled Horse-Drawn Railroad

Royalton-Hartland School District received a FY 2021 Farm to School Implementation grant to provide engaging, hands-on programming that promotes a healthy lifestyle; increases student knowledge of how to grow, prepare, and store fresh produce; and exposes students to the multitude of career opportunities in the growing local agriculture industry. In collaboration with district partners, including Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County, Blackman Family Farms, and the Royalton-Hartland Agriculture Foundation, Royalton-Hartland School District is in the process of developing a K-12 curriculum, engaging teachers in the integration of the farm to school vision on a district-wide basis, equipping kitchen facilities to increase the capacity to store, prepare and serve locally sourced foods, and upgrading classrooms for project-based learning experiences. April 17, 2023: St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clarence, New York Built in 1962, the visually striking architecture of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clarence, New York is a typical example of the forward-looking design philosophy of Highland &amp; Highland, a firm based in the nearby city of Buffalo.

St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clarence, New York, April 2023 St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7720 Goodrich Road, Clarence, New York, April 2023. Built in 1962, the visually striking architecture of this building is a typical example of the forward-looking design philosophy of the Buffalo firm of Highland &amp; Highland. At first blush, the wide expanse of abstract, geometrically-patterned stained glass on the façade, along with the sprawling slope of the enormous roof whose eaves reach nearly all the way down to the ground, might give the impression of the A-frame style that was up-and-coming on the architecture scene at the time. However, look closer and you'll see that the structure is based around a series of soaring parabolic arches: eight in all, each standing 60 feet high. Echoes of the same curvilinear pattern can be found throughout the spacious interior as well, specifically in the scalloped supports on the side and in the chancel itself. The overall effect, then, falls under the aegis of the Neo-Expressionist style in which the firm specialized. (Note, however, the sharp contrast presented by the straight lines of the south side annex, which also contains the narrow, oblong bell tower.) According to newspaper coverage at the time of the church's construction, the lofty dimensions of the structure (further emphasized by its placement atop a 10-foot man-made hill) was a key element of the architect's symbolic intent: namely &quot;to reflect the spirit of achievement in the long history of the congregation&quot;, which traces its deepest roots back to 1840, when a band of Lutherans from what's now Germany who'd earlier fled the religious persecution of King Friedrich Wilhelm III found a home among the well-established German-American community in the hamlet of Wolcottsburg, in the northern part of the town of Clarence. They founded St. Paul's in 1855, and immediately set to work constructing a simple wood-framed chapel on a plot just south of the present church, at the corner of Wolcott Road. For far longer than most local Protestant congregations, St. Paul's held fast to both its ethnic and its physical heritage: services continued to be held in German as late as 1954, and replacement of the original church building wasn't envisioned until 1956, when deferred maintenance and modernization needs forced their hand. Groundbreaking ceremonies in April 1961 kicked off a fourteen-month, $125,000 construction program.
