The Spafford Area Historical Society (SAHS) is a non-profit organization established to promote and preserve the history and culture of the Spafford area of Marietta, New York. SAHS was founded in 1996 by a group of local citizens with an interest in the history and culture of the area.
The mission of SAHS is to identify, collect, preserve, interpret, and educate the public about the history of the Spafford area of Marietta. The Society works to gather and preserve artifacts, documents, and other materials related to the area’s history. They also hold various events throughout the year, such as lectures, workshops, and field trips, to educate the public about the area’s history.
The Society is housed in a 19th-century building in the heart of the village of Marietta, which serves as the Society’s headquarters and research library. The library houses a variety of materials related to the area’s history, including newspapers, books, photographs, and maps.
The SAHS also has a museum and gallery space where visitors can view exhibits of artifacts and photographs related to the area’s history. The museum also features a gift shop where visitors can purchase items related to the area’s history.
The Society is part of the larger Marietta Community Historical Society and works in collaboration with a number of other local and regional historical organizations. The SAHS is committed to preserving the history of the Spafford area and to educating the public about the area’s rich history and culture.
