COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE THE NARCISSA HOUSE

The Committee to Preserve the Narcissa House is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the historic Narcissa Prentiss House located in Prattsburgh, New York. The house was built in 1834 and was the childhood home of Narcissa Prentiss, a famous missionary who with her husband, Marcus Whitman, helped establish the Oregon Trail and a mission to the Native American tribes in the Pacific Northwest.

Over the years, the house fell into disrepair and was in danger of being demolished. However, in 1976, a group of concerned citizens formed the Committee to Preserve the Narcissa House to save the historic landmark. Since then, the committee has worked tirelessly to raise funds for the restoration of the house and to educate the public about the significance of Narcissa Prentiss and her contributions to American history.

Today, the Narcissa House stands as a testament to the courage and dedication of Narcissa Prentiss and her family, as well as the hard work and commitment of the Committee to Preserve the Narcissa House. Visitors can tour the house and learn about the life and times of Narcissa Prentiss and her family, as well as the history of the house and the committee's efforts to preserve it for future generations.
