The Tioga County Historical Society, located in Owego, New York, is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the county. Founded in 1883, the Society is one of the oldest historical societies in the state of New York.

The Society’s collections include more than 85,000 artifacts, documents, photographs, and more that tell the story of the area’s history. These include items related to Native Americans, early settlers, industry, transportation, and education. The Society is housed in the historic Owego Free Academy building, which was built in 1854 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The archives house documents, artifacts, and photographs that tell the story of the county.

Goetchius Wetland Preserve in Tompkins County, New York Freshwater wetlands are seen at Mabel P. & Paul T. Goetchius Wetland Preserve in Caroline, N.Y., on June 12, 2021.
