Cunneen-Hackett Cultural Center is a historic building in Poughkeepsie, New York, which has been repurposed as a cultural center. The building was originally built in 1882 as a Catholic school and convent. In 1901, it was sold to the Poughkeepsie Club, a men's social club, which added a ballroom and additional rooms. In 1921, it was sold to the Cunneen-Hackett family, who used it as a funeral home for many years.
In 1979, the building was purchased by a group of local residents who wanted to preserve the historic structure and turn it into a cultural center. The group raised funds to renovate the building and opened it to the public in 1981.
Today, the Cunneen-Hackett Cultural Center is a multi-use facility that hosts a variety of cultural events, including theatrical performances, art exhibits, concerts, and dance performances. The center also offers classes in music, dance, and theater.
The building itself is a beautiful example of Victorian architecture, with ornate detailing and a distinctive tower.
