darrius garrett onesheet Darrius Garrett is an Author, Actor, Motivational Speaker, Mental Health Advocate, and Original Freedom Writer. In a few short years, Darrius Garrett transitioned from the ’hood to humanitarian, reaching heights he once could only imagine. As an inner-city youth of Long Beach, located in southern California. Garrett could quickly have become a product of his environment but rose instead to become a pillar of his community. He became a New York Times bestselling author at a young age when he co-wrote The Freedom Writers Diary, which inspired the 2007 movie The Freedom Writers, starring Hilary Swank. In the film, Garrett is portrayed as the heart-wrenching character Marcus. Darrius has penned his memoir entitled Diary of a Freedom Writer, released in 2013 but currently out of print after the book publisher shut down; the biography is currently seeking a literary agent to help find a new publishing home. The Winton Historical Society is located in Winton, California, a small rural community in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. Established in 1993, the Society is dedicated to preserving the unique history and culture of the Winton area. The society’s goal is to collect, preserve, and make available for research material relating to the history of Winton and the surrounding areas.

The Society's collection includes photographs, artifacts, documents, and other items pertaining to the history of Winton and the surrounding region. The Society is also responsible for the preservation of some of the area’s historic buildings, including a number of adobe structures that date back to the early 1800s. The Society also hosts a variety of events throughout the year such as lectures, workshops, and tours.

The Winton Historical Society is open to the public and offers a variety of educational activities and resources. The Society also offers educational programs to promote the understanding of history and culture in the Winton region. The Society works with local schools, organizations, and other groups to provide educational opportunities for the community. The Society is also the recipient of a number of grants, which help fund its activities and programs.
