The Albany Institute of History & Art is a museum and research center located in Albany, New York. Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute is one of the oldest museums in the United States and has a long history of preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting the cultural, social, and natural history of the region. The Institute's collections include more than 25,000 objects, including paintings, prints, photographs, furniture, decorative arts, and artifacts from the region's pre- and post-Colonial periods. Additionally, the Institute houses one of the country's oldest manuscripts, the 17th century charter that established Albany as a city.

The Institute's exhibitions are diverse and often focus on topics that relate to the region's history and culture. Past exhibitions have included topics such as the region's earliest inhabitants, colonial Albany, military history, and the city's role in the abolitionist movement. The Institute also offers a variety of educational programs for adults and children, including lectures, hands-on activities, and special events.

The Institute's library contains more than 30,000 volumes, including rare books and manuscripts, many of which date back to the 18th century. Additionally, the Institute has an extensive archive of oral histories, photographs, and documents from the region's past. The Institute is open to the public six days a week and admission is free.
