The Tuxedo Historical Society (THS) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization located in Tuxedo Park, New York. Founded in 1962, THS is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Tuxedo Park and its people. The Society is housed in the historic Grey Towers Castle, which was built in 1895 by Pierre Lorillard IV. The Castle serves as the Society’s headquarters, and is also home to its collections and exhibits.
THS is committed to preserving and interpreting the history of Tuxedo Park and its people, through educational programs, lectures, and special events. The Society also maintains a research library and archives, which are open to the public and researchers by appointment. The archives contain documents, photographs, and other items related to Tuxedo Park’s history.
The Society also sponsors an annual Tuxedo Park History Symposium, which brings together historians, researchers, and other experts to discuss topics related to the history of Tuxedo Park. The event is open to the public, and features guest speakers, panel discussions, and other educational programs.
THS also publishes a quarterly newsletter, which contains articles about the history of Tuxedo Park and its people, as well as updates on the Society’s activities. The newsletter also features information about upcoming events, and book reviews. THS also offers a variety of publications for sale, including books about Tuxedo Park’s history, and reproduction prints of historic photographs.
The Society’s mission is to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the history of Tuxedo Park, and to encourage research and scholarship on the subject. The Society’s goal is to ensure that the unique history of Tuxedo Park is not forgotten, and to provide access to its resources for current and future generations.
