The American Jewish Historical Society (AJHS) is a New York-based academic and archival institution that documents the history of Jews in America. Founded in 1892 by Jewish immigrants, AJHS has its headquarters in Center City, Manhattan, and is one of the oldest national ethnic historical organizations in the United States. The Society’s mission is to preserve and make accessible the history of Jews in America and to promote an appreciation of American Jewish culture and heritage.

The AJHS houses a unique collection of manuscripts, photographs, films, artifacts, and books related to American Jewish history. These materials serve as an invaluable resource for researchers and students of American Jewish history and culture. The Society also houses a library, which includes over 10,000 volumes of books and periodicals.

In addition to its archives and library, AJHS engages in a variety of educational and outreach activities. The Society sponsors lectures, symposia, film screenings, and other events related to American Jewish history. It also organizes walking tours and other activities to educate people about the history of Jews in New York City.

The AJHS is a member of the Council of American Jewish Museums (CAJM) and the International Association of Jewish Museums (IAJM). It is an affiliate of the American Jewish Historical Society and the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington.
