Clarence Travel Plaza (Applegreen), Interstate 90 New York Thruway, Clarence, NY Built in 2022-2023, this Contemporary building was designed by Upland Architects as one of many newly redeveloped travel plazas along the New York State Thruway, which carries Interstate 90 through the state of New York.  The plazas are operated by vendor Applegreen, and feature a large gabled central atrium with glass wall and clerestory windows, with a vaulted interior ceiling over a central seating area, flanked by various food vendors and a convenience store, and is clad in metal and precast concrete panels.  The buildings are part of an effort to improve the experience of travelers on the New York Thruway, a toll road, and modernize the aging visitor facilities.

The Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier is a nonprofit organization located in North Tonawanda, New York. Founded in 1995, the Carousel Society works to preserve, restore, and preserve the region’s carousel heritage. The Society is dedicated to the mission of preserving and restoring the carousels of Western New York and the Niagara Frontier, and to educating the public about this important aspect of the region’s cultural heritage.

The Society’s main goal is to ensure the carousels of the Niagara Frontier are preserved and enjoyed for generations to come. To this end, the Society has restored and preserved carousels in several parks throughout Western New York, including Delaware Park in Buffalo, the Buffalo Zoo, and Playland Park in Niagara Falls. The Society also offers educational programs, such as lectures and field trips, to inform the public about the carousel’s history and importance.

In addition to its educational activities, the Carousel Society also organizes events to raise funds to support its mission. These include carousel rides at local festivals and special events, carousel-themed art shows, and auctions of carousel-related items. The Society also sponsors carousel-themed dinners, dances, and other special events.

The Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier is an important part of the region’s cultural heritage and its mission of preserving, restoring, and educating the public about the carousel is an important one.
