CENTRAL SQUARE RAILROAD STN

CENTRAL SQUARE, NY

Air Force One When it was announced that POTUS was coming to town, I initially wasn't going to go out to the airport. No president had ever flown to SYR in the 747 and I had seen the 757 half a dozen times.

Last minute, I decided to throw the kids in the car since they're home on spring break, grab some fast food lunch, and sit at the picnic tables in the public observation area and enjoy the sun.

The I got my camera out and saw the 747 turning final and I was very pleased with my decision.

Central Square Railroad Station is a historic train station located in Central Square, New York. The station was built in 1892 and served as a stop for the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad, which was later merged into the New York Central Railroad. The station is a fine example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture and features a distinctive tower and a red brick exterior.

The station is a single-story building with a waiting room, ticket office, and a freight room. The waiting room features wooden benches and a fireplace, and the ticket office has a wooden counter and a ticket window. The freight room has a loading dock and a sliding door for easy access to the trains.

The station was closed in the 1950s due to declining passenger traffic and fell into disrepair. However, it was restored in the 1990s and now serves as a community center and museum. The station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a popular destination for railroad enthusiasts and history buffs.

Today, the station houses exhibits on the history of the railroad in Central Square and the surrounding region. Visitors can also tour a restored caboose and locomotive that are on display outside the station.
