THOMAS PAINE COTTAGE

The Thomas Paine Cottage is located in New Rochelle, New York, and is a historic house museum open to the public. The house was built in 1793 and is the last remaining structure from the early settlement of New Rochelle. It is an example of late 18th century vernacular architecture, and is a rare surviving example of a two-room cottage of the colonial period. The house was built by Thomas Paine, a Revolutionary War patriot, lawyer, and writer, who lived in the house until 1805.

The cottage is a one-and-a-half story building with a gable roof and clapboard siding. The interior of the cottage is filled with original 18th century furnishings, including a beehive oven, a rope bed, and a variety of textiles and artifacts. The house is also decorated with a number of items related to Thomas Paine, including portraits, engravings, and documents.

The Thomas Paine Cottage is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated National Historic Landmark. The house is now owned and operated by the Thomas Paine National Historical Association, which offers guided tours and educational programs to the public. The house is open to the public from May through October and is available for special events throughout the year.
