The Highstown-East Windsor Historical Society (HEWHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Highstown and East Windsor, New Jersey. The Society was founded in 1972 and is located in the historic Courthouse in Highstown. Through its research, educational programs and exhibits, the Society strives to enhance understanding of the past and present of this small, rural community.
The Society’s library provides access to a wealth of information on local history, including books, newspapers, maps, photographs, and other documents. The library is open to members as well as the general public. The Society also offers free research assistance and educational programs throughout the year.
The Society is actively engaged in preserving the community’s history through various projects. These include restoring the Courthouse, preserving the former Quaker Meetinghouse, and leading walking tours of Highstown. The Society also works to promote public awareness of the community’s rich heritage.
The Society is governed by a Board of Trustees and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The Society welcomes new members and volunteers, and donations are always welcome. By joining or supporting the Society, you can help to ensure that the history of Highstown and East Windsor will be preserved and shared for generations to come.
