VAN WICKLE HOUSE

The Van Wickle House is a historic home located in Somerset, New Jersey. It was built in 1722 by the Dutch-American Van Wickle family and is one of the oldest buildings in Somerset County. The house is a two-story frame structure with four rooms on each floor and a central chimney. The home's original design features a steeply pitched roof with gables on each end and a central dormer.

Throughout its history, the Van Wickle House has had many owners and uses. During the Revolutionary War, it was used as a hospital for wounded soldiers. Later, it was a farm for several generations of the Van Wickle family and then was converted into a boarding house. In the 1960s, the house was restored and opened as a museum.

Today, the Van Wickle House is operated by the Somerset County Park Commission and is open to the public for tours. Visitors can experience life in colonial New Jersey and learn about the history of the area. The house is filled with period furnishings and artifacts, including a spinning wheel, a butter churn, and a loom. The property also features a beautiful garden and grounds, which are maintained by the garden club of Somerset County.
