Friends of the Madison Train Station Inc. is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization based in Madison, NJ that seeks to preserve and enhance the historic Madison Train Station located in the heart of the downtown area.

The Madison Train Station, a former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad depot built in 1838, is one of the oldest operating train stations in the United States. The station is a listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered a major feature of the town's historic district.

Friends of the Madison Train Station Inc. was founded in 1988 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to ensure that the historic station was preserved. The organization is led by an Executive Board of Directors and is supported by a number of committees and volunteers.

Robbins Reef Lighthouse on Disembarkation Day from the Jewel of the Seas 14 Night Cruise to Greenland - September 28th, 2023 Pictures of the Robbins Reef Lighthouse from on board the Jewel of the Seas on Disembarkation Day - September 28th, 2023 as we returned from our fantastic voyage. The Robbins Reef Light is a sparkplug lighthouse that dates from 1883 (replacing a light that was built in 1839). It is very close to Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey. I was able to see a number of lighthouses in New York Harbor this trip. On board the Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas for a grand 14 day cruise to Greenland (September 14th through 28th, 2023). The cruise embarks from Cape Liberty (Bayonne, NJ) with an actual stop in Manhattan (a delay leaving NYC caused by Hurricane Lee); Nuuk, Qaqortoq &amp; Nanortalik in Greenland; St.John's, Newfoundland before heading back to New York City. It was a grand adventure.

Staten Island Range Lighthouse from the Celebrity Summit on Disembarkation Day - Ten Night Bermuda and Charleston Cruise - May 25th, 2023 Pictures (I think) of the Staten Island Range Lighthouse from on board the Celebrity Summit at the end of our ten day cruise. From the Lighthouse Friends site: &quot;Also known as Ambrose Channel Rear Range Light, Staten Island Lighthouse serves as the rear range light companion to West Bank Lighthouse. The ninety-foot tower is located on Staten Island’s Richmond Hill, at a point that is 145 feet above sea level and over five miles northwest of West Bank Lighthouse.&quot; This guided ships into the Ambrose Channel. I was able to see a number of lighthouses in New York Harbor this trip. On board the Celebrity Summit for the Ten Night Bermuda &amp; Charleston, SC Cruise (May 15 through May 25, 2023). The cruise embarks from Cape Liberty (Bayonne, NJ) with an additional stop at Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.

NJ - West Orange: Edison Labaratory Heavy Machine Shop - Power Hack Saw The Heavy Machine Shop was one of two machine shops in Building 5, the main laboratory building at the Edison Laboratory complex. The shop contained tools like lathes and drill presses that were used to make parts for new inventions. The machinists used these tools to cut and shape metal parts to construct models of Edison's inventions.

Thomas Edison National Historical Park comprises of two properties in West Orange: the second Edison Laboratories complex, located at 211 Main Street, and Edison's residence, Glenmont, located about 1/2-mile down the road in Llewellyn Park. The museum collections, with over 3000,000 items and an archives of approximately five million documents, are the largest single body of Edison-related material extant, covering Thomas Alva Edison's sixty-year career a an inventor, manufacturer, businessman and private citizen.

The Edison Laboratory complex, one of the first modern industrial labs, was designed by Henry Hudson Holly in 1887. Edison worked here along with a staff of about sixty assistant researches, and operations continued until his death in 1931. The complex includes more than a dozen buildings including a library, stockroom, Heavy Machine shop, Precision Machine Shop, Drafting Room, Music Room, Phonograph Gallery and the Black Maria--the world's first movie studio, which could be rotated on a turntable to keep sunlight on film subjects, that was reconstructed in 1954.
