The Boronda Adobe History Center is located in Salinas, California and is dedicated to preserving the history of the Boronda family and the adobe that has been in their possession since the mid-1800s. The Boronda Adobe was built in the late 1850s by Juan José Boronda and his wife, María Soledad Ortega. The adobe is a two-story, U-shaped building with a covered porch in the center. The adobe was originally used as both a family home and a trading post for the Boronda family.

The Boronda Adobe History Center offers visitors a chance to learn about the rich history of the Boronda family and their adobe. Visitors can take part in guided tours of the adobe, which includes viewing the original artifacts and archives. The center also has a gift shop and an outdoor patio, where visitors can relax and learn more about the adobe’s history.

The Boronda Adobe History Center is a great place to visit to learn more about the history of this area of California and the Boronda family. The center is open Wednesday through Sunday, and admission is free. Visitors of all ages can learn about the history of this unique adobe, and the center also offers special programs for schools and other groups.

Salinas / “Day or Remembrance Memorial Garden” (# 0076) The “Day or Remembrance Memorial Garden” in Salinas, near the Rodeo Grounds where Monterey area Japanese were involuntarily assembled before being sent to internment camps (mostly to the <u><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/donbrr/9640061740">Poston Internment camp</a></u>) during WWII. Salinas / ‘guard animal’? (#0069) Getting closer to why I was visiting the park, I came across this unusual statue – again with no description. But, the fenced enclosure in the background is my real reason for visiting (forthcoming picture).

Pacific Grove / contrasts (# 0041) BTW, this picture is a good example of how direction on the Monterey Peninsula can be confusing, as I note in a comment below. We're actually looking NNE here across Monterey Bay -- the Pacific ocean is a little behind me, off my left shoulder. One way to get oriented is to note that the towers of Moss Landing generating plant are faintly visible near the left side of the picture. When I was stationed in Monterey in '67-'68, my barracks window looked over the bay and the sun set behind the barracks, seemingly over land (over the peninsula).
Castroville / Japanese Schoolhouse internment – desert prison (# 0020) Description of life at the internment camp in Poston, AZ, where the Castroville Japanese were sent from the Salianas Rodeo Grounds detention center. Life for the next three years was in the long rows of barracks pictured here, in a desolate and remote spot not far from the Colorado River. The local tribes in Arizona are working through the <u><a href="https://www.postonpreservation.org" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Poston Community Alliance</a></u> to honor the history of the Japanese and their work with the tribes during their internment.
