CATHEDRAL OF THE PINES

RINDGE, NH

Feelings of Home, Early Winter A place that required me to visit, for 3 years to get the right composition. I left my home after a storm and finally captured this. A 3 photo panorama, which paved the way for several of the same in different seasons.

Cathedral of the Pines is an outdoor sanctuary located in Rindge, New Hampshire. It was established in 1945 by Douglas Sloane, a former chaplain in World War II, as a place of worship and reflection for people of all faiths.

The sanctuary is situated on a hill overlooking a beautiful lake and surrounded by acres of pine forest. The centerpiece of the sanctuary is a 60-foot-tall stone altar, which is used for religious services and weddings. There is also a stone pulpit and a small chapel, which can accommodate up to 90 people.

The sanctuary is open to visitors year-round, and there are several hiking trails that wind through the forest. Along the trails, visitors can see a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and birds. There are also several benches and picnic areas, making it a great place for a peaceful picnic or a quiet afternoon of reflection.

Cathedral of the Pines is often used for weddings and other special events, and it has been the site of several famous weddings, including the wedding of former astronaut Alan Shepard. The sanctuary is supported by donations and is run by a small staff and a dedicated group of volunteers.
