SCOTTISH RITE CATHEDRAL

JOPLIN, MO

The Scottish Rite Cathedral in Joplin, MO is a historic landmark located in downtown Joplin. Built in 1925, the building was designed by architect William B. Ittner and is a classic example of Neo-Classical architecture. The building is three stories high and constructed of brick, with limestone trim and terra cotta accents. The main entrance is flanked by two Ionic order columns, and a second-story balcony is supported by Corinthian order columns. Inside the building is a grand auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,000 and a large stage. The ceiling of the auditorium is painted with a mural depicting the history of the Scottish Rite.

The interior of the building also features a library, office space, and a museum. The museum displays artifacts from the history of the Scottish Rite as well as items from the original building. In addition to being a place of historical interest, the building is still used by the Scottish Rite for their meetings and events.
